Distinguishing Features of the Plant | Tragopogon pratensis is a biennial or perennial herb growing up to 0,6m, with lanceolate, green leaves and yellow or red, hermaphrodite flowers in inflorescences. The flowering lasts from June to July, the fruiting happens from August to September and the harvesting takes place from January to March. |

Pharmacological Effects - Therapeutic Applications | The plant extract has diuretic, purgative, astringent and expectorant properties and it is recommended for the treatment of arthritis, arteriosclerosis, rheumatism, hypertension and various skin problems. Also, it is administered to stimulate gallbladder fuction, the appetite and the digestion. The root has astringent, diuretic and expectorant properties and it is used in the form of herbal tea for the treatment of persistent cough, bronchitis, heartburn and various liver disorders. |
Method of Administration | The whole plant is administered against rheumatism and skin diseases in the form of herbal tea (20-24g of dried herb in 1L of boiled water, 2-3 times a day) as well as a diuretic in the form of infusion (1: 5 or 1:10 parts of dried herb and boiling water) Warning: The use of herb preparations is not recommended without seeking advice from your physician or pharmacist.
