Distinguishing Features of the Plant Erica manipuliflora is a perennial, evergreen shrub growing up to 1m, with small, linear, sessile leaves and many, small, bell-shaped, pink flowers in inflorescences (bunches). The flowering and harvesting take place from August to September.

Pharmacological Effects - Therapeutic Applications The whole plant has antitussive properties and it is recommended for the treatment of cold, mouth and throat inflammations (anti-inflammatory action). Also it is administered in the form of herbal tea against nephrolithiasis, cystitis, prostate and renal colic. The plant's infusion is externaly applied by rubbing for the treatment of arthritis, polyarthritis and rheumatism. The infusion also increases the digestive enzymes and contributes effectively to the restoration of bile's problems, colic colon and liver diseases. The plant is food for the bees and the produced honey has expectorant, antibiotic, sedative and hypnotic properties.
Method of Administration The plant is administered as antitussive, anti-inflammatory and digestive in the form of herbal tea (a spoon of dried herb in a cup of boiled water, 3 times a day before eating). Also, it is administered in the form of infusion (a spoon of dried herb in a cup of boiling water) for external use (rubbing the skin).
