Distinguishing Features of the Plant Juncus alpinus-alpinus is an annual or perennial, aquatic plant growing from 40 to 100cm, with oblong, lanceolate, pointed, green leaves and green, hermaphrodite flowers. The flowering and the harvesting take place from June to July. It is a member of the hydrophilus rhizophytes, as it is rooted in the bottom of aqueous areas, while the shoots grow above the water surface.

Pharmacological Effects - Therapeutic Applications The whole plant has antiinflammatory, diuretic, antipyretic, emollient and sedative properties. It is recommended in the form of herbal tea for the treatment of chronic constipation, sore throat, jaundice, edema and urinary tract infections. The root has astringent properties and it is recommended in the form of herbal tea against urinary bleeding and chronic dysentery.
Method of Administration The plant is administered in the form of herbal tea (2 spoons of dried leaves and root in 1L of boiled water for 5-10min, 3 times a day).
