Distinguishing Features of the Plant Tordylium apulum is an annual, herbaceous plant growing from 15 to 50cm, with soft, hairy, pinnate leaves and white flowers with five petals in complex, umbrella-shaped inflorescences. The fruits are orbicular and flattened, 5-8mm millimeters in size. The flowering and the harvesting take place from October to May.

Pharmacological Effects - Therapeutic Applications Nowadays the plant is not used in medicine. In folk medicine it is recommended as expectorant and anti-catarrhal, as well for the prevention of hair loss, menstrual and nervous diseases. A lot of studies are conducted to prove its possible cytotoxic and cytostatic action, due to the contained coumarins.
Method of Administration In folk medicine it is used against hair loss and menstruation in the form of herbal tea (two spoons of dried herb in a cup of boiled water for 10min, 3 times a day)
