Distinguishing Features of the Plant Phyllitis scolopendrium is a perennial, herbaceous fern, with shiny, green, tongue-shaped, wavy or feathered, 20-60cm long leaves. The plant usually grows in moist, shady areas and calcareous soil. The harvesting of the leaves takes place in summer.

Pharmacological Effects - Therapeutic Applications The herbal tea is used as an astringent, cholagogue, diaphoretic, diuretic, expectorant and healing. It is recommended for the treatment of gastroenteritis, diarrhea, dysentery, bronchitis, tuberculosis, splenic, bladder and liver diseases. It is applied externally to the skin, as a soothing agent, especially for burns.
Method of Administration It is administered as antidiarrheal in the form of herbal tea (10-20g of dried leaves in 0,5L of boiled water or boiled milk, 1-2 times a day) and in the form of tincture (made from the fresh plant)
