Distinguishing Features of the Plant Narthecium scardicum Ko?anin is a perennial, herbaceous plant growing up to 40cm, with lanceolate, green leaves and yellow, star-shaped flowers with characteristic Stamens (hairy filaments). The flowering and the harvesting take place in July. This rare plant is found near wet areas and it is included in the list of UN.

Pharmacological Effects - Therapeutic Applications In folk medicine the plant is administered in the form of herbal tea for the treatment of cough, inflammations in genitals and seizures. It is applied externally in the form of poultice to heal the wounds, as well as antibiotic (Improper use). In many European countries the plant is used in cooking instead of 'saffron', while in the past it has been used as ingredient in hair dyes.
Method of Administration In folk medicine the plant is administered in the form of herbal tea (a quantity of dried root in a cup of boiled water, 2-3 times a day)
