Distinguishing Features of the Plant Blackstonia perfoliata is an annual, herbaceous plant growing from 10 to 60cm, with triangular leaves, spherical fruits and yellow, hermaphrodite flowers. The flowering and the harvesting take place from May to October.

Pharmacological Effects - Therapeutic Applications The plant has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antidiabetic and cardioprotective properties. The contained flavonoid quercetin can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, by acting against any forms of oxidative stress. Currently, studies are conducted in order to prove its potential use against cancer. The herbal tea is used for the treatment and prevention of obesity, to reduce diabetes symptoms, and finally to reduce the risk of respiratory diseases (asthma, bronchitis).
Method of Administration The plant is administered against obesity, diabetes and cardiac diseases, in the form of herbal tea (a quantity of dried herb in a cup of boiled water 2-3 times a day).
