Distinguishing Features of the Plant Asparagus officinalis is a perennial, herbaceous plant growing up to 5m, with small, membranous, spiky leaves, spherical, purple-red berries and bell-shaped, white or red flowers in inflorescences (bunches). The flowering lasts from June to August and the harvesting takes place from May to June.

Pharmacological Effects - Therapeutic Applications The herbal tea made from the root of the plant is used as diuretic to treat bladder and renal problems, as well against gout, cystitis, pyelitis, dropsy and heart failure. Also, it has antispasmodic, tonic, antirheumatic, antidiarrheal and astringent properties, while in folk medicine it is recommended for the treatment of epilepsy, involuntary nocturnal enuresis, leprosy, tuberculosis, oral and eyes inflammations.
Method of Administration The plant is administered as diuretic in the form of herbal tea (40-50g of dried herb in a cup of boiled water, 2-3 times a day) and in the form of syrup (1-2 spoons, once in the morning and once in the evening)
